Gavin Hulett has worked in nature conservation for most of his life and his first interaction with turtle research came shortly after he had completed his National Diploma in Nature Conservation and Wildlife Management.
After traveling the world for a couple of years, he was appointed as Senior Ranger/Camp Manager of the MalaMala Game Reserve in Sabi Sand Wildtuin. In his career, he has managed various reserves and in 2012 he was appointed General Manager of Machangulo, a residential tourism development initiative in southern Mozambique.
The area comprises 5700 hectares on the Machangulo peninsular, a little south of Inhaca Island, across the Bay of Maputo, east of Maputo City. It consists of approximately 22km of beachfront, large swathes of coastal sand forest, inland lakes, and an open grassland area. The development has 70 designated coastal sites and 44 lake sites, one coastal hotel site, and one lake boutique hotel site.
Gavin calls Mozambique home and has until recently worked with the Peace Parks Foundation where he assisted ANAC with operations in the Maputo Special Reserve.
